Wow, that was quite the storm we had around here last night! I haven't heard an official report of how much rain we received, but it came down hard and fast for a couple of hours during the night. I was afraid of the scene I would wake up to find, and I was correct. The water flowed very fast through our valley during the night, actually overflowing our 6ft culvert, spreading across the flat land between our creeks, and washing out our smaller creek and roadbed.
What's left of my road
We placed an early call to our friendly neighborhood excavator and by noon they had our road fixed!
Downstream from our washed our creek/road.
The destruction from the big creek, across the flat, towards our smaller creek.
Once our road was fixed, we went for a drive, towards Coon Valley, to see what their creek looked like. It was flooded also, like we expected.
Their baseball field looked like a swimming pool.
These benches usually line a deep swimming hole, now they are part of it.
See the bench, or at least the top of the bench? That usually is along the creek, next to a beautiful, paved walking path.
Coon Creek is just a little bit bigger than it usually is. Just kidding, this is huge!
I feel badly for Coon Valley, it seems they get hit hard by the floods every year also, far worse than we do. Just in the past three years, they have had to redo their park area at least 4 times, if not more!
One other park we went to check out, is our favorite, Mormon Coulee Park. The water was still high their also, but hadn't done much damage.
You can see the line of downed grasses, how high the water was at one point.
Some other kids enjoyed playing in their new "swimming pool".
Joey and Becca had to walk through the water also.
I figured I had better take a lot of pictures, or else Rich wouldn't believe me about a flood while he was in Canada.

too bad the slide didn't end in the water hole... you would think if you had to rebuild/do a park 4x's you would see the writing on the wall - maybe not meant to be - although that is a beautiful park area. Glad you can leave your house in a van not a canoe :)
Eek! Look at your driveway! Uhoh! Glad to hear u got it fixed quickly! LOVE the header photo as well, I drive by that view everyday! We really are blessed to live in a beautiful area! Looks like you all had a good day again exploring despite the flooding! Oh btw, love the pics from yesterday, except the one with me in it! Oh well! it was fun! Stay dry and have a good night!
