Class of 2015?

I cannot believe this, my baby is going to be in middle school! Andrew had a 6th grade orientation tonight at Longfellow, where he will be starting in the fall. Am I ready to have a tween? I don't think so!! Tonight it really hit me, that Andrew is definately growing up. Seeing him with all of his friends, watching him try to be a cool dude and not be nervous, listening him admit to his Dad, "it's a BIG school". I think he is really excited about the new adventure, right now he just won't admit how nervous he is. He is used to small classes, knowing everyone in his class, next year he will be in a homeroom of 27, one of 7 other similarily sized 6th grade homerooms. Yikes! I came from a small parochial school, had a class of about 18, the same kids from kindergarten until 8th grade. Andrew's new school is one I have never even stepped foot in until today. It was referred to, when I was in school, as the "other school, where the bad kids went", now suddenly I am about to send my oldest child to this same school. I think I am more scared than Andrew is. When the principal announced that we were looking at the Class of 2015, you could hear this collective gasp from all of the parents, along with nervous laughs. I don't think any of us had thought of our children in those terms before.

We also signed ourselves up for a busy summer. On top of Andrew's baseball games and practices, he also decided to join band and orchestra next, with lessons starting this summer for both. That means one day each week he will have music lessons, two days will be baseball games, and probably two days of baseball practice also thrown in there. Add to that our week long summer vacation, Andrew's week long scout camp, Becca having daycare two days each week, and numerous family get togethers, I think our summer is going to fly by. Not sure right now how we will also fit in work and sleep schedules for Rich and I, it is going to be interesting for sure.

Just a quick note to welcome the new addition of my friend and co-worker, Kari. She delivered a 8lb 11oz little girl on May 14. Welcome Kayla Marie!

Hi Sue,
Wow...middle school already. I remember the start of going to a new "big" middle school...doesn't seem that long ago, where does time go?? Anyway, I went to Longfellow eons ago and it at least wasn't bad then, so hopefully it will go well for him. I went there for all my middle school years until I went to Central, and i never had any problems with the school, etc...then again, alot has probably changed since the very early 90's...anyway, can you believe your baby is off to middle school. I am sure he will do great.

That really does sound like a busy summer, wow! And, from what I hear from other moms, my guess is that the older they get the busier it will become. With Andrew starting middle school, this is probably the year that will really start it all!
