Scary storm

I just have to tell you all about the scary storm that whipped through our valley really quick tonight. As I have said before, I am a storm freak, so after supper I took the kids outside to watch the brewing thunderstorm. It was getting really dark, with near constant thunder and lightning off in the distance. There was this one grouping of clouds that looked like an updraft, where the lower clouds are sucked up into the upper clouds, often present in the forming of tornados. I pointed it out to Andrew, and as we were talking about it, it was moving quickly towards us and across the valley. It started to rain a bit, the kids were dancing and racing about in the raindrops. Then I could hear this loud sound coming at us, I couldn't tell if it was rain or wind or whatever, I tried getting the kids to stop singing for a minute. All of a sudden it started to downpour and I mean REALLY downpour. The wind was blowing like crazy, from all directions it seemed like. You could see sheets of rain being blown in all directions. There were leaves coming down from the hill behind, my first thought was "debris" as in the flying cows from the movie Twister. The trees were all bending unbelievably down, I can honestly say I have never seen anything like that before in my life. I really was worried a tornado was brewing. I raced the kids into the house, closed windows quick, and had the kids heading downstairs for cover. Andrew could see in my face that I was concerned, he kept asking "Mom, what is it?" We no more than got downstairs and it had already passed. My heart was pounding like you wouldn't believe, it definately took awhile for me to relax again. I heard on the news then that there were wind gusts of 60 mph in the area! Wow, what a storm! I have never seen anything like that before and am in no hurry to see it again. I've said that I love storms and love to watch them when I know I am safe, tonight I didn't feel safe. I hope everyone else is safe tonight and enjoying a nice weekend.
