Does this bring back memories to anyone out there? Tonight we were invited to the local roller rink for my nephew, Jacob's birthday party. My kids had so much fun! They have been there before, for other parties, they were actually there just a couple of weeks ago, but I wasn't fortunate enough to be there or to have my camera along. Joey and my nephew, Steven, decided to not skate, to just play in the huge playarea they have there. Jake and Andrew both skated and when Becca arrived, she decided to skate also.
Jacob is pretty good on skates, he can do squats. I can hardly do them off of skates.
Andrew was doing pretty well with on his in-line skates.
Becca was having fun on her skates also, not too bad for her first time on skates.
Andrew and Jake were awesome, they took great care of Becca when she was on the rink. There were several bigger kids, many of them were not being too nice to the little kids. The boys took turns skating slow with her while the other one skated a faster round, then would switch off. Another time, while our boys were off the rink, I looked up to find 3 different boys around her, talking to her. Needless to say, I headed over to them really quick to see what was up, it is a little disconcerting to see 3 12year old and up boys around my baby girl. When I got there, it turns out someone else had called her names and made her cry, which none of us had noticed. These boys did notice and were trying to make her feel better and to find out who had hurt her feelings, they were going to get the kid. I settled them and Becca down and thanked the boys for their concern. What is it about seeing little girls cry, that brings out the protectiveness in boys?

The roller rink also has a great climbing playarea. It is great for the kids to have place to play other than just the skating rink.

Wouldn't be a birthday party without present openings, now would it?
Hope you all enjoyed this trip down memory lane with me, I spent many fun field trips to this same skating rink when I was a kid. I went to school just behind the roller rink and would take at least one field trip a year to the skating rink. Happy Birthday, Jacob, hope you are enjoying the sleep over tonight, to finish up your birthday celebration!

Susan,
Definitely brings back those memories! Remember buck night at that same rink?! I LOVE all the pics and my heart just melted when I read about Andrew and the other older boys staying with and watching out for Becca...the fact that they were going to "get" that kid who was teasing her to protect her was just precious. You are right what is it with little girls crying that makes boys become so protective. Either way, it's adorable. So glad to see Becca on skates, this is the same little girl who told me at lunch today she couldn't skate b/c she's "too little" and "not old enough"...Way to go Becca! Glad to hear you all had fun!
Oh yes... it still looks the same (except the climbing area). I love seeing my kids look out for eachother too - even at their young ages. Glad you all had fun!
Looks like so much fun. That is so sweet that the "big boys" were worried about Becca. She did a good job skating.
